40k Open Day Round Up

In today’s foray into the grim dark future that is the 41st millennium, we will be looking at some of the top reveals from the Warhammer World 40k open day including all the lovely new miniatures we have to look forward to. So, what are we waiting for, let’s get going before the inquisition classifies these documents.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

First up we have the reveal of the new transport/flyer for the servant of the machine god. Looking like it was ripped straight out of the Dune series (and that’s not a bad thing), the Archaeopter is a versatile kit that can be assembled in one of three ways. With gunship, bomber, and transport variants, this DaVinci-inspired masterpiece looks set to give the Ad Mech a chance to attain aerial superiority. Sadly, all you budding tech priests will have to wait till the new year before being able to get your hands on this unique flying machine of death. But I am sure the wait will be worth it.

Sisters are doing it for themselves.

If any of you out there were lucky enough to get our hands on the new Sisters of Battle Army Set, first of all, congratulations. Second, I bet you all had a good look through the codex and were a bit flummoxed at the named character of Triumph of Saint Katherine. Well, now we know what the triumph is, and my word it is glorious. More of a diorama than a special character, this amazing model will be the centre piece for many Sisters armies I am sure. But wait, there is more.

The new multipose Repentia kit gives players a chance to field vast swathes of these fanatics on the tabletop, and I for one am not looking forward to the first time a full unit of these chainsword-wielding maniacs hit my precious Grey Knights. Both kits will be out next year, and they might just inspire me to start a new army.

There has been an awakening.

The 40k open day also gave us not one, but three glimpses into the future of the Psychic Awakening story arc. Now while some of my predictions from a few weeks ago have been rendered defunct, I don’t really mind because it looks like the next book in the series will finally show some love to the most underappreciated force in the game.

That’s right. The sons of titan, alongside the Dark Angel and the Thousand Sons, will be featured in the next book titled Ritual of the Damned, which comes out in Janurary. Fingers crossed I’ll be getting some fun updates for my favourite army to team up with their great point reduction in the latest Chapter Approved. Next up in February we have The Greater Good, which I think it is safe to say will be about the Tau if the title is anything to go by. Lastly, March will bring us Saga of the Beast, which just screams Space Wolves vs Orks to me.

Time will tell what these new expansions will bring to the game, but if the last two books are anything to go by the future might just be a little bit brighter in the far future.

And there was so much more to look at, from Aeronautica Imperialis to new Black Library books and an amazing trailer for the upcoming Warhammer animation projects. If you haven’t had a look for yourself, I would go do that now through the link here.
