Update 25.July.2017

The first real update for the deck whilst having deck lists to compare. The major changes were mostly suggested by Sam Waters, a local player big into EDH, he most likely had a dissertation to write or something, so spent his evening thinking up improvements for my deck instead.

He felt the deck had a good strategy, creatures, trigger, attack… However it was light on everything else, draw, ramp, removal.

Suggestions:

Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder
Sylvan Advocate
Stoneforge Masterwork
Aligned Hedron Network
Spear of Heliod
Always Watching

+ Solemn Simulacrum
+ Beast Within
+ Anguished Unmaking/Utter End
+ Draw spell
+ Draw spell
+ Skullclamp

Making cuts was a bit tricky, so I opted to just cut the weakest effects. Bruse Tarl and Masterworks make one creature hit very hard, but you’re planning to swarm with a lot of tiny creatures. Advocate “just” being a 4/5 Ally for 2 mana didn’t seem super good. Hedron Network isn’t reliable removal, might end up exiling your anthem’d Allies, and whatever is exiled will just come back eventually anyway. You had a surplus of +1+1 to the team effects, so I trimmed what I think are the weakest two.

“Solemn is colour-fixing and ramp on a creature, which seemed relevant considering the general attack plan. Beast Within and Anguished Unmaking/End deal with any sort of permanent at instant speed, which the original list was missing.

“3 more draw spells should let you keep up in the longer games. Really recommend Skullclamp. When you’re attacking with hordes of cheap creatures there is no better option.

“Oh, one more thing- I can’t tell exactly from eyeballing it, but your mana might need more white sources. Because my plan involves cutting Advocate, I’d also do:

Hissing Quagmire
+ Bojuka Bog.

…because eventually you’ll meet a Meren deck and be glad you have it.”

Meren… Looking at you Samuel Peters

I took all of these on board, for the additional draw spells I added Sphinx’s RevelationPhyrexian ArenaDefense of the heart. The Heart technically isn’t draw but getting to search up two allies for extra triggers and such is amazing. The Arena was an interesting choice possibly swayed by the fact it was in my binder and Spetes plays it in his Meren Deck.

I really love Sylvan Advocate, The one in the deck is foil and signed, I even have a print from Baga I got at GP Manchester. It pains me to remove it but it’s possibly for the best, the suggestion to cut the Hissing Quagmire for the Bojuka Bog was reasonable but I messed around with the land so much that I now have both. Its possible my lands still aren’t right but we shall have to play to see.

Other than Always watching I don’t feel overly attached to the other cards that got cut. Always watching may make it back in as I feel that Vigilance is such a great ability.
