Talking with Tengu ep 4: Modern with Special Guest Jessica Estephan

Today we bring you the last episode in our current series of Talking with Tengu. Over the last few months on this site we have gotten to know about many of the Magic community’s favourite content creators over battles in a variety of Magic formats. If you missed out on any of our previous articles you can catch up with any of them in the links down below. Today we end our first series with a not only a great content creator, but with a Pro Gamer. Yes, today I do battle with someone who has not only won a Grand Prix but competed at the Pro Tour level. How will I get on against the one and only Jessica Estephan? Read on to find out.

For those of you who don’t follow much competitive Magic, Jessica Estephan is a Magic player and content creator from New South Wales, Australia. This past April she made Magic history when she became the first woman to win a Magic GP alongside her teammates Ryan Lewis-Jonns and Lachlan Saunders. Since then, Jessica has competed in numerous more GP’s as well as her first Pro Tour. Not only that, but she has written articles for Channel Fireball and started the V Clique Podcast alongside Emma, Kat, Emily, and Ally.

We sat down in the afternoon (early morning for yours truly) and battled it out in a game of Modern. Jess was piloting Hollow One (the deck she took down GP Sydney with), while I would be trying out an old classic in Mono White Souls Sisters. Looks like I’m going to have my work cut out for me – lets hope I’m up to the challenge.

The series will be taking a break over the festive period, but we hope to be back with more guests in the new year.
